Why We Love Organic Cotton

Save the planet, go organic

So what’s all the fuss about organic cotton?

Put simply; it’s better for our kids, our workers and our planet – and here’s why:

Sensitive Skin It’s naturally soft. There’s a reason why organic cotton is so soft. It waves goodbye to all the harsh chemicals and dyes used to process standard cheaper cotton, breaking down fibres and damaging the fabric.

Environmentally friendlySafe and sound. Organic cotton producers and clothes manufacturers aren’t exposed to harsh chemicals and dyes, making it far safer for them and our planet – therefore, it's miles better for the environment. Only natural pest control methods are used, which helps to keep the soil fertile, water clean and our air unpolluted. It's a much more sustainable way to make clothing!

Naturally SoftIt’s super kind to skin.  Our Organic cotton is lovely and super soft on even the most delicate skin, and uses no nasty chemicals found in non organic textile production. That means it’s perfect for sensitive babies and kids skin – and better for those with allergies and skin conditions like eczema.

Machine WashableYou can love your clothes for longer. Because organic garments haven’t been produced with harsh chemicals like those found in regular clothing production, they’ll last much longer and wash well – even at 30 degrees – so they can be worn again and again! Don't forget to pass your outgrown Toby Tiger clothing on to friends and family for future for generations to use, when your little one goes up a size!

Earn a voucher to spend when you recycle!

We have also teamed up with Superlooper in the UK who will give you a voucher to spend on the next size up! you can  send your outgrown clothing to them to receive your voucher and they will ensure the clothing gets its full life cycle of use by renting out  your unwanted worn clothing!

GOTs certifiedWe go the extra organic mile.

Toby Tiger clothes are also GOTS-certified, a badge of honour for us. In a nutshell, it means we – and you – can be super sure that our lovely cotton suppliers and clothes makers follow only the best methods for organic, social and ethical standards.

Factories are checked to ensure workers have a safe and clean environment and are paid a fair living wage. The factories also need to show how much water and energy they use to make their cotton, while GOTS puts targets and practices into place to help lessen the load.

All in all, happy workers make our comfortable clothes, which makes the environment much happier too. This puts a smile on our faces and, of course, the little ones wearing them!

Things we love about being organic

What are Organic fibres?

Today's sustainability challenges and the contributions of the fashion and textile industries to those challenges require us to rethink textiles' production and consumption collectively. Organic fibres play multiple roles in creating a sustainable sector that actively lowers its environmental impact and prioritises human health over short-term profits. A textile product carrying the GOTs label must contain at least 70% certified organic fibres, and a product with a GOTS label grade 'organic' must have at least 95% certified organic fibres. Organic fibres are natural fibres grown without synthetic pesticides (like insecticides) or herbicide and GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) according to the principles of organic agriculture, which is a production process that sustain the health of ecosystems soil and people.

What are AZO-free dyes?

Azo-free dyes are a type of dye that does not contain any azo compounds. Azo compounds are synthetic chemicals that have been traditionally used in the textile industry to create vibrant and long-lasting colours. However, certain azo compounds are harmful to human health and the environment.

Azo-free dyes are an alternative to conventional dyes that contain azo compounds. These dyes are made from natural or organic materials, such as plant extracts, and do not involve the use of any harmful chemicals or toxins. They are considered to be more environmentally friendly and safer for both the wearer and the planet.

By choosing products made with azo-free dyes, you can ensure that your clothing is free from potentially harmful substances while still enjoying a wide range of vibrant colours. It's a win-win for style, safety, and sustainability!
